SPIRITUAL FORMATION

The heart of the spiritual life at Cardinal Muench Seminary is the daily celebration of the Holy Eucharist. Mass is celebrated with greater solemnity on Sundays and Solemnities. Once a month, the seminarians participate in the celebration of Sunday Mass in a local parish in the Fargo-Moorhead area. Twice a month, Wednesday Mass is celebrated in Latin. Morning Prayer and Evening Prayer from the Liturgy of the Hours are celebrated in common. An hour of Eucharistic Adoration with time for silent adoration, prayer and reflection, is held daily Sunday through Friday.

Every seminarian is required to have a spiritual director, with whom he meets on a regular basis. A priest-confessor is available at scheduled times during the week.

Throughout the year there are opportunities for the seminarians to deepen their spiritual life. Two annual retreats are conducted, the first at the beginning of the year, after the summer break and before academic pursuits begin, and the other mid-year, during the Christmas break. A Day of Recollection is held mid-semester, that is, twice a year. During months in which a retreat or Day of Recollection is not scheduled, there is a Reconciliation Service, at which a number of priests are available to celebrated the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Lectio Divina is held in common once a month.
